Mediation Center to Hold Discussion about the Film, ‘Bully’ at Upstate Films

The Mediation Center, in collaboration with Upstate Films, Rhinebeck, will facilitate a discussion about the film, Bully, on June 21 after the 8:05pm show.  The film is a documentary by Lee Hirsch that follows five students who are targeted by their peers leading to a call to action to end bullying in schools.  The event is part of the Mediation Center's Anti-Bullying Initiative, which began in February with a Roundtable, What are the Gaps to Overcome Bullying: A Community Conversation, and in March, the 1st Anti-Bullying Walkathon.  Anti-Bullying t-shirts will be available for a donation to the Mediation Center.  For more information call the Center at 471-7213.

Coalition on Elder Abuse to hold 4th Annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in Millbrook

The Coalition on Elder Abuse in Dutchess County will present its 4th annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) conference on Friday June 14, 2012 from 9 am to 1 pm at Cornell Cooperative Extension, The Farm & Home Center, 2715 Route 44 in Millbrook. The program, “There’s No Excuse for Elder Abuse: Joining Forces & Creating Partnerships”, will focus on increasing community awareness by describing the general dynamics of elder abuse. A special presentation will address the need for and effectiveness of collaboration among various professions using the Multidisciplinary Team Approach to review cases of elder abuse and address systemic problems. In honor of WEAAD the NY State Bridge Authority will light the Mid-Hudson Bridge purple.
